NAMIBIA: Rossing Reservoirs

LOCATION: Arandis

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 6 reservoirs to upgrade extra water process facility

CEMENT USED: +-5000cub concrete. Ohorongo CEM IR with 30% Fly Ash blend was used

PROJECT ETA: 8 months

AMOUNT OF CEMENT USED:  Estimated 1400 tons of cement with a total of over 5000 cubes of concrete placed. Ohorongo CEM I 42.5R cement was used with a 30% Fly-Ash extension. Fly-ash was added to the concrete to increase the density and reduce permeability as well as cracking of concrete.

RECOMMENDED CONCRETE STRENGTH: 10MPa Blinding & 40MPa Concrete

CONCRETE PLACEMENT: Due to confined space,  distance to cast element and high, all concrete was placed using a mobile pump.

RESERVOIR CAPACITY: Is the complete reservoir made from concrete? What other materials were used? Only the base, main structure was derived from epoxy coated steel.

PROJECT CHALLENGES: Large continuous pours. Pours had to be done over night as to reduce influence of thermal temp changes. Logistics of material was also something that needed continuous planning.
