For 21 families in Katjinakatji Growth Point, Kavango West, the dream of owning a permanent home has become a reality. The Pupkewitz Foundation officially handed over 21 newly constructed houses, marking an important milestone in improving access to affordable housing in Namibia.
The initiative was made possible through the Pupkewitz Foundation, in partnership with the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), Ohorongo Cement and First National Bank (FNB). Together, these organisations have supported an initiative that demonstrates the value of collaboration in addressing housing challenges and empowering communities.
What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is the dedication of the homeowners themselves. Through the SDFN, members contributed their savings, made their own bricks and worked alongside builders to construct their homes. Their commitment and perseverance have transformed years of hard work into a place they can proudly call their own.
Speaking at the handover, Mr Willem Mbangu reflected on the Federation’s remarkable progress, highlighting that 402 houses have been constructed across the Kavango West Region, including the 21 homes in Katjinakatji. Nationally, the Federation has facilitated the construction of more than 11,000 houses since 1998, demonstrating the lasting impact of community-driven housing initiatives.
As a proud Namibian cement manufacturer, Ohorongo Cement values opportunities to contribute to initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. We are honoured to stand alongside the Pupkewitz Foundation, SDFN and FNB in supporting this meaningful achievement.
We congratulate the 21 new homeowners and everyone whose dedication and contributions helped make this milestone possible.
