To complement the road safety awareness campaign efforts of the National Road Safety Council, Ohorongo Cement employees will engage with motorists on the B1 between Otavi and Tsumeb.
This initiative will take place on 24 May to encourage safe driver behavior.
Ohorongo values the lives of its employees, and takes great care to ensure their safety within their working environment. “We also care about the lives of Namibians in general, thus we thought it would be a great opportunity to utilise the upcoming public holiday for this awareness campaign,” said Junge Jansen, Ohorongo Cement’s Health and Safety Coordinator.
The employees will be present at a roadblock on the B1 and will be managed by the Otavi Police and Traffic officers.
“We are doing this, because road incidents and fatalities affect us all. We felt that as regular road users, we too have a responsibility to help promote safe driver behavior on our roads,” said Jansen.
Ohorongo staff will be engaging with motorists regarding the consequences of breaking road traffic laws, and reminding them to be courteous and respectful towards other drivers, as well as pedestrians.
Jansen added: “We believe that our efforts will promote road safety, which will help decrease the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities. That is also one of the reasons why we chose to do this campaign just before Africa Day, a public holiday, as many people will be on the road for the upcoming long weekend.”
The MVA Fund will also assist during the initiative.
