Hon. Dr. Esther Muinjangue receiving the donation of medical equipment to the worth of N$ 2 million from Mr. Sion Amalovu and Dr. Markus Schneider who represented Support Ulm e.V. and Ohorongo Cement, flanked by Mr. Ben Nangombe the Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Orthopedic Specialist Dr. Tufikifa Nakala and senior officials from the Ministry.
Support Ulm e.V., a non-profit organization based in Ulm, Germany, under the management and guidance of Prof. Dr. Heinz Maier together with Dr. Markus Schneider, donated medical equipment worth N$ 2 million to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, this specific consignment was put together mostly to the benefit of the Department of Orthopaedics at Katutura Intermediate State Hospital.
Support Ulm e.V. was established by a group of medical doctors who made it their aim to support medical projects throughout the world, they support various projects by means of financial, humanitarian as well as through donations.
The donation was handed over by Mr. Sion Amalovu of Ohorongo Cement, to the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon. Dr. Esther Muinjangue, on 17 February 2025. Amalovu highlighted that the donation was specifically aimed to improve medical services most especially within the department of orthopedic within the Ministry of Health and further on to every other health sectors within Namibia, the donation aids the Ministry in its obligation towards fulfilling the provision of health services towards the Namibian people as enshrined in the Namibian Constitution.
“I am happy to confirm that, since the establishment of the partnership between Support e.V, the Ministry of Health and Social Services and Ohorongo Cement in 2009, we have spent over N$ 86.8 million supporting a whole number of social projects and out of the N$ 86.8 million, N$ 72.5 million has been tallied to medical supplies and equipment, including today’s donation,” said Amalovu. He also expressed gratitude towards Blaauw’s Transport, a valuable CSI partner of Ohorongo Cement, for donating transport and logistical services of the medical equipment from the Walvis Bay Port to Windhoek.
Amalovu further expressed heartfelt gratitude to Genmed Enterprise Pty Ltd for their technical and evaluation assistance with the donated equipment. In her acceptance remark, Hon. Dr. Esther Muinjangue mentioned that the donation will go a long way in improving service delivery and restoring the health and dignity of the Namibian people.
She also expressed that the donation is timely as it coincides with an outbreak of malaria in the country and equipment such as hospital beds will be of great use in the admission for the high numbers of patients due to the outbreak. Also speaking at the hand over Dr. Schneider indicated that Namibia has been placed as priority on the Germany Orthopedic Trauma Association and will be receiving more support for orthopedic equipment and machinery still within the year 2025.
Private public partnerships were also encouraged such as the great one between the Ministry of Health and Social Services and Support e.V Ulm thorough Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd, as this will assist in helping the government in rendering high quality services to the Namibian people, “as together we build a resilient health system” said Dr. Muinjangue.
