LOCATION: Windhoek
VALUE: N$ 1 Million
On 22 April 2026, a significant milestone was celebrated in Windhoek, the official announcement of the sponsorship renewal for the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia. This moment not only marked the continuation of a long-standing partnership, but also reaffirmed a shared commitment to improving lives through access to dignified housing.
As highlighted in the Minister’s address, this collaboration represents more than just funding: it is a powerful example of what can be achieved when government, private sector, and communities come together with a common purpose.
A Partnership That Delivers Real Impact
Over the past decade, this partnership has contributed meaningfully to addressing Namibia’s housing challenges. Through combined efforts:
Over 3,100 houses are currently under construction through government funding
An additional 532 houses have been delivered through private sector support, including Ohorongo Cement, FNB, and the Pupkewitz Foundation. These are not just numbers…they represent families gaining access to safe, stable homes, and communities being uplifted.
Restoring Hope and Dignity
Access to proper housing goes far beyond shelter. It restores dignity, creates stability, and opens doors to opportunity. For many Namibians who have spent years in informal settlements, moving into a permanent home is both a practical and deeply emotional milestone.
As expressed during the event, these housing initiatives are already changing lives, offering hope where it was once uncertain, and creating a foundation for a better future.
The Power of Public-Private Partnerships
One of the most powerful messages from the event was the importance of collaboration. Addressing Namibia’s housing needs cannot be achieved by the government alone. It requires:
Strong partnerships
Shared responsibility
A commitment to long-term impact
Ohorongo Cement is proud to be part of this journey, contributing not only materials, but also actively supporting sustainable development and community upliftment.
Looking Ahead
While significant progress has been made, the journey is far from over. The demand for housing remains high, and continued collaboration will be essential in meeting these needs. This renewed sponsorship is a clear signal of intent: to keep building, to keep partnering, and to keep making a difference.
A Message to the Ohorongo Family
To our partners, stakeholders, and the wider Ohorongo Family: this achievement belongs to all of us. It is a reminder that when we work together, we can create a lasting impact that extends far beyond construction.
We are not just building homes.
We are building futures
