On close of business 4 th of March, Ohorongo Cement achieved 365 days Lost Day Injury (LDI) free.
The Managing Director attributed this to the Ohorongo team’s high focus on safety and playing their part in identifying potential incidents and mitigating them.
“The milestone achieved certainly sets the benchmark for future records. So keep on reporting hazardous situations and near misses, to ensure continuous improvement in safety behaviour,” Mr. Hans-Wilhelm Schütte encouraged the employees.
Schütte added that “it is Ohorongo’s aspiration to become the reference institution for good safety behaviour within the mining industry building on our reputation as winners of the 2016 Chamber of Mines inter-mining safety awards.”
Schütte further encourage the nation to extend good safety behaviour beyond their work place. “We should not just practice safety at our work place but extended these good behaviors to our communities by applying the same vigilance with special focus on road safety.”
He called on all Namibians to strive for zero incidents on the roads, especially during the upcoming public holidays.
Ohorongo complies with the SA8000 standard that is based on international human rights norms, and national labour laws that protect and empower all personnel within the company’s scope of control and influence.
