The Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust spearheads playground refurnishment

Late last year Ohorongo Cement (PTY) Ltd, in partnership with the Otavi Town Council, established the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT). Under the motto “Together we’ll grow from a village to a city”, the trust defined as its objective the general advancement of the Otavi community by investing in the town’s infrastructure and public service facilities.

One of the first projects tackled was the rehabilitation of the Otavi playground which had fallen to disrepair. Besides re-fencing the property and installing a new entrance gate, the playground equipment was refurbished and painted. Moreover, soft sand was distributed under the swings, slides, seesaws and roundtables.

The playground refurbishment is in accordance with the objective of the trust to initiate and support projects which will cause Otavi’s infrastructure, schools, education, medical care and commercial facilities to progress. The many opportunities for development and growth in the region provided by the trust have been welcomed by the Otavi Town Council and general community.

Managing Director of Ohorongo Cement Hans-Wilhelm Schütte said: “The trust is a dedicated and independent vehicle that supports and also activates specific and clearly defined initiatives aimed at uplifting the Otavi community. The playground is only one small project amongst a number of activities and initiatives our trust plans to action in Otavi. Another initiative organized recently was the delivery of hospital beds and other equipment in excess of N$700 000.00 to the Otavi Health Clinic.”

The Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust would like to commend the number of companies and private individuals for their help on the playground, including Ohorongo Cement (PTY) Ltd, Mr Olaf Schidlowsky, Henning Crusher (PTY) Ltd, Khorab Lodge and the Otavi Town Council, as well as Germany based NGO Support eV, the main sponsor of this project.
