Support Ulm e.V., a non-profit organization based in Ulm, Germany, under the management and guidance of Prof. Dr. Heinz Maier, together with the Haussler Group in Ulm, Germany, donated medical equipment worth more than N$ 300,000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Opuwo District Hospital. The donation was handed over by Mr. Rudolf Coetzee, the General Administration Manager of Ohorongo Cement, to the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon. Dr. Esther Muinjangue, on 27 February 2023. The donation was specifically aimed at the improvement of the Orthopedic Rehabilitation Centre at the hospital.

Support Ulm e.V. was established by a group of medical doctors who made it their aim to support medical projects throughout the world. They support various projects by means of financial and humanitarian means as well as through donations.

“I am happy to confirm that, since the establishment of the partnership between Support e.V, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, and Ohorongo Cement in 2009, we have spent over N$ 75 million supporting a whole number of social projects, and out of this, thanks to Support Ulm e.V., more than N$ 62 million was on medical supplies and equipment. This includes today’s donation,” said Coetzee.

Hon. Dr. Esther Muinjangue thanked Support Ulm e.V. for the generous donation and said that the donation came at an opportune time, because there is an increased number of patients with rehabilitation needs. “Now that we shall have a state of art rehabilitation equipment unit, I wish to

advise people with rehabilitation problems and needs, to make use of these facilities without fail. This is vital, not only in service delivery provision but also in prolonging the quality, the strengths and the lifespan of the individuals in our families and in our community. Rehabilitation equipment is important for aiding the disabled, and also for preserving good mobility – therefore should be taken care of,” said Muinjangue.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services remain grateful for Support Ulm e.V. for their commitment in sourcing donations of Medical Equipment, as any support of medical equipment will undoubtedly enhance Ministerial responsibility of providing affordable quality health care services.

This Private Public Partnership in the public health sector serves to narrow the gap caused by resource constraints as well as improve access to quality health services.
