OOCT hands over a container of medical equipment to Ministry of Health

LOCATION: Ondangwa

VALUE: N$ 204 000.00

Healthcare received another boost with a donation of medical equipment to Onandjokwe Hospital last week by the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), in collaboration with Support e.V.

OOCT was established by Ohorongo Cement in 2008, even before one bag of cement has been manufactured. The company then donated the initial contribution of N$ 100 000 towards the Trust Fund.

As is well known, Namibia faces many challenges in delivering quality health services to the community, with main constraints amongst a few, being inadequate medical equipment and supplies.

In July this year, Hon. Minister Dr Bernard Haufiku, approached Ohorongo Cement with a special request for scopes for the hospital. Within 2 months, OOCT and Support e.V. managed to respond to this request with the donation of the requested scopes and other medical equipment.

Only when Public and Private sector come together in a true partnership to serve the communities it operates in, can one affect positive change.

The medical equipment to the value of N$ 204 000,00 was received by the Hon. Minister himself at a hand-over ceremony at Onanandjokwe Hospital on 25 September.

To mention just some of the equipment that were donated:

  • Colonoscopes
  • Gastroscopes
  • Sigmoido Scope
  • Protoscope
  • Rectoscope
  • Wheelchairs
  • Walking frames
  • Commodity chairs
  • Emergency kits
  • Disinfection stations
  • Suction pumps
  • Microwave therapy units
  • Infrared coagulator
  • Ergometer

This donation is purposed for use at the Onandjokwe Hospital and surrounding areas where the need is great.

The existing agreement between OOCT, Support e.V and the Ministry of Health and Social Services was renewed and extended for another 5 years in November 2014.

“This certainly is only a start for some projects yet to come, and we look forward to make a change within the community with the support of our stakeholders,” said Mr Rudolf Coetzee, General Administration Manager of Ohorongo Cement.

From humble beginnings to date, the total amount already invested in Corporate Social Investment projects by Ohorongo though OOCT, in collaboration with Support e.V. is in excess of N$ 6.5 million.

This proves the dedication and support the company has for Government initiatives and that it truly cares about the community it operates in.
